The Desk You Are Sitting At

OK, I'll start with something simple- and neutral. I just picked this out of the air as an example. If you're not sitting at a desk, think about your work desk at your home or office. Chances are that, except when you bought it or if it's a expensive or fancy one, you've never given your desk much thought. What could possibly be great about it?

Well, I can think of several things right off:

1) It's very functional. Imagine what a pain it would be to write, or type, without it.

2) It requires virtually no maintenance or attention. Regardless of what kind of desk it is, once it was assembled and installed, you will likely never need to work on it again. It will last many years- or a lifetime.

3) It was quite inexpensive (probably). A hundred or more years ago, a desk would have been an expensive, major purchase. Now, you can get a good, solid one for a hundred bucks or even less used. I'll bet it even looks like it's made out of solid wood- even if it's not. Just think about all the work that went into making it.

4) It keeps the stuff you need right where you need it. Papers and pens inside, computers and phone up top, right at hand all the time, no thought required.

5) It looks good. Most likely, it's an attractive piece of furniture that complements your decor.

Feel any different about your desk? :)
